The Amesbury Police Department Communications staff currently consists of 4.5 full time civilian Communications personnel. While communications is an ever evolving field, the Amesbury Police Department combines both highly trained personnel with some of the most advanced and updated communications equipment available today. The primary 911 PSAP for the Town of Amesbury is located in our newly renovated communications center located on the first floor of the Amesbury Police Dept., and is staffed 24 hours a day. Police Communications personnel field all 911 calls as well as police business lines, and radio communications from the Amesbury Police, DPW, and animal control.
Amesbury Police Communications personnel are some of the most highly trained professionals working in the field today. All Communications staff are trained in CJIS, First Responder, CPR, 40 Hour Basic Telecommunicator, EMD, Suicide prevention, 911 Liability training, Advanced Law enforcement dispatch as well as other specialty areas. All newly hired Communications staff are required to take part in an extensive in house training course administered by a Certified Communications Training Officer.
In 2006 the Amesbury Police Department initiated a capital improvements project to replace its aging and failing communications system. Finished in early January of 2007, the Town of Amesbury now has one of the most advanced dispatcher friendly Communications centers in Essex County. Computer based touch screen capable monitors tying in phone systems as well as radio systems make dispatching emergency calls not only easier, but far more efficient. The Police Communications Center has two consoles with the Fire Department housing our third console system as a back up.
As Communications evolves as a profession the Amesbury Police Department Communications personnel do their best to ensure that we not only stay on the cutting edge of technology and training, but that Amesbury as a community continues to receive the high level of service it has come to expect from its communications center.
